Bangladeshi-born senior journalist, educator and community leader Mohammad Abdul Matin has been appointed Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Reliable College of Nursing (RCN College), a CRICOS-registered vocational education institution in Australia. The appointment follows his successful completion of the mandatory Fit and Proper Person Assessment conducted by the Australian Skills Quality Authority (ASQA), Australia’s national regulator for vocational education and training. The assessment is a statutory requirement for chief executives and key management personnel of registered training organisations, designed to ensure they meet stringent standards of integrity, professional competence, governance and financial accountability.
Speaking about his appointment, Matin said he was initially approached by the college’s management to take on the leadership role.
“Following the submission of my curriculum vitae and supporting documents to ASQA, the required assessment and verification processes were completed. After receiving regulatory approval, I was formally appointed as Chief Executive Officer,” he said.
Matin said RCN College is committed to delivering high-quality education and practical training to both domestic and international students. He noted that the institution places particular emphasis on creating a modern, safe and supportive learning environment for students from Bangladesh and other countries seeking internationally recognised qualifications.
He also highlighted Australia’s growing demand for skilled healthcare professionals, describing the health and social assistance sector as one of the country’s fastest-expanding employment industries.
“As Australia’s healthcare workforce continues to grow, registered training organisations have an increasingly important role in developing competent professionals. RCN College offers industry-focused programs in nursing, aged care, disability support and other healthcare disciplines to help meet this demand,” he said.
Matin brings more than three decades of experience spanning journalism, education and community service. He began his journalism career in 1989 with the Bangladeshi daily Azad and later worked with several national media outlets, including The Daily Star, The Daily Disclosure and Dainik Abirbhab. During his career, he covered major national institutions, including the Bangladesh Secretariat, the Jatiya Sangsad, the Prime Minister’s Office and Bangabhaban, reporting extensively on politics and public affairs.
In Australia, Matin has remained actively involved in journalism, education and community engagement. He currently serves as Editor of Bidesh Bangla, President of the Australia Bangladesh Journalists Association (ABJA), and is a member of the Media, Entertainment & Arts Alliance (MEAA) and the Local & Independent News Association (LINA). He is also a Justice of the Peace (NSW) and a Qualified Education Agent Counsellor (QEAC).
Throughout his career, Matin has received several recognitions for his contributions to journalism, education and community service, including the COVID Hero Award presented by Australian Federal Minister Tony Burke and the Pandemic Hero Award from the Canterbury-Bankstown City Council.
Members of the Bangladeshi community in Australia have welcomed his appointment, describing it as a significant achievement for the diaspora. They expressed hope that under his leadership, Reliable College of Nursing will further strengthen its reputation for quality vocational education and contribute to developing a highly skilled healthcare workforce for Australia and beyond.
