Thief’ Slogans Raised Against Former Chief Minister Mamata at High Court

Former West Bengal Chief Minister and Trinamool Congress leader Mamata Banerjee faced protests and slogan-shouting by a section of lawyers after appearing at the Calcutta High Court on Thursday to argue in a post-poll violence case.Mamata appeared before the bench of Chief Justice Sujoy Paul and Justice Parthasarathi Sen in connection with a public interest litigation filed by lawyer Shirshanya Banerjee, son of Trinamool MP Kalyan Banerjee.She arrived at the High Court premises shortly before 11:00 am and appeared in court in a lawyer’s attire. After presenting her arguments before the bench, she encountered protests while leaving the courtroom.

By that time, news of Mamata’s appearance in court had already spread among members of the legal community, drawing a crowd of lawyers in the High Court lobby. As she came out of the courtroom following the hearing, a section of lawyers began shouting slogans against her, including chants of “thief.”

According to reports, abusive remarks were also heard from within the crowd during the protest.

Despite the tense situation, Mamata Banerjee left the High Court premises safely. While departing, she gestured toward some of the protesting lawyers and reportedly said, “They attacked me.”
